04/01/09 - Ramsey Frostbite (00:47:14)
Having not run since the last Frostite on 14/12 due to being ill over Christmas/New Year, I was not looking forward to thi run (which is not one of my favourite runs anyway).  Managed to complete the run despite struggling for breath the whole way around.  Conditions wre actually not that bad - minus 1 with the ground frozen.  Was surprised to find later that this was the fastest I had run this course in the last 3 years.

14/12/08 - Hunts AC Frostbite (00:45:16)
First time a Frostbite has been held in Hinchingbrook Park, Huntingdon, and this was a vertitable mud path!  Very difficult conditions, and very grateful I had a pair of trail shoes to run in as those running in ordinary road shoes really struggled.  A fairly slow time, but I felt I had a steady run and no ill-effects.  Probably spent more time cleaning my kit afterwards than in the actual running!  It was, however, an enjoyable run....

06/12/08 - FetchEveryone Mile Challenge (00:07:16)
Another trip to Bury St Edmunds for a repeat of the 1 mile Challenge, although this time not so successful!  Having been struggling with a bad chest infection for the previous couple of weeks, confidence was not high.  Started off far too fast, and completed the first lap in around 01:35, and lying second with the main pack a good 30 feet behind.  Started to struggle second lap, and then developed a really bad headache (not pleasant!).  The others then started to pass me, but I battled on and MXHornet paced me for a while.  Finally crossed the line some 13 seconds slower than last time, and feeling very rough!  The chest infection/virus obviously hasn't cleared, hence the headache.

06/12/08 - FetchEveryone 400 metres (00:01:35)
Having run the mile, we then did the 400 metres, and this hurt!  The headache hadn't cleared and confidence was very low.  However, I managed to complete the run and wasn't last!  The good news from both these runs was that the legs held up well.

23/11/08 - Hereward Relay - stage 3 March to Welney (01:47:18)
With not having run for 2 weeks following a fall and then a chest infection, I was not looking forward to this run, especially when I woke up to snow!  Fortunately the weather improved for the start of my leg from March to Welney.  First 3.5 miles were OK and footing was quite good, despite the snow & ice.  Mind you, lots of runners were passing me, which was dispiriting!  Conditions underfoot deteriorated once we turned away from the river and tackled the farmland tracks and fields.  Struggled to keep an even pace, and finally lost all energy at aroung 6 miles - nothing left in the tank!  Battled on to finish in a disappointing time, totally knackered and coughing for England!  Quoted distance for the leg is 10.3 miles, but my Garmin registered 10.95 miles.  Now need to clear the chest infection before next run!

09/11/08 - Bushfield Frostbite (00:40:42)
A cool but breezy day and a large field of runners heralded a painful run!  Painful because my mate, David (Fenland Runner) Mould had said that he was going to pace me to a new PB.  The run itself went fine.  The first mile we settled down to a slightly faster pace than needed to PB, but I wanted to get some time "into the bag".  By the time we left the woods at the 2 mile mark, my breathing was definitely getting heavier, but I still felt pretty good.  The next mile (not the prettiest - along Wistow Way, past the Chequers, and up to the Marriott Hotel) soon passed, and we were back into the trees for the run to the 4 mile mark.  I was staring to tire, but was just managing to keep the pace going.  However, once we left the wood at 4 miles and tackled the last strect over the bridge and through tghe underpass, I was really struggling.  Managed to hold it to the line, finishing in a new PB for 5 miles by 13 seconds.  As this is a Frostbite run, i will not count it as a PB, but it certainly gives me confidence for a "proper" 5 miler!

26/10/08 - Fenland 10 (01:26:23)
With really manky weather and a sore neck, I was not really in the mood for this one.  However, once the race started, I quickly got into my stride, and I hit the mile marker in 8 minutes - a tad on the fast side for me!  I eased off the pace slightly and found it quite easy to keep a steady pace.  Hitting the 7 mile marker in just under 1 hour, I knew a PB was on, and I eventually crossed the line, smashing my PB by nearly 5 minutes - well chuffed!  No ill effects from the run.

05/10/08 - BUPA Great North Run (02:07:25)
The weather was brilliant, if a little on the warm side!  Starting a couple of pens further back, it still only took only 10 minutes to cross the start line and I was soon able to get into a running rhythm.  Felt pretty good all the way around, but couldn't really go fast because of the sheer number of runners.  Finished in a faster time than last year, albeit not one of my fastest half marathons - position, 17,399.  Still, a crackin' day, and no injuries.

14/09/08 - Grunty Fen Half Marathon (02:06:36)
I hadn't intended to run this race, but with Derwentwater Trail being cancelled, it seemed a good idea!  First HM since Great Eastern Run 11 months ago.  The weather had changed dramatically from the cold and wet of previous weeks, and it was very hot and sunny - this certainly caused me problems later on in the race!  First hour and 7 miles I ran with a friend, and it seemed fine, although my right quad started to hurt after about 5 miles.  Last 6 miles were a real struggle, and I had to walk a couple of times (at the drinks starion).  Time was about what I expected, but was totally knackered at the end.  Right quad is quite sore - hope this is only temporary!

17/08/08 - Thorney 5 (00:41:50)
OK first 2 miles, but then struggled with breathing and heat.  Whilst a disappointing run time-wise (could/should have done better), I still ended up running this race faster than the previous two times.

01/08/08 - Wibbly Wobbly Log Jog 5 (00:45:07)
First time running this off-road race in Brandon Forest, and thoroughly enjoyed it.  The course is very demanding - lots of twists and turns, climbs & descents, and very sandy underfoot in places.  One long climb between 3-4 miles.  Twisted ankle early on, but soon ran it off.  Course emasured 479 rather than 5, but what the heck, a good race.

30/07/08 - Peterborough 5k Series (5) - Werrington (00:25:23)
Back to Werrington for the last in this year's 5k series of races.  Very hot and humid conditions.  Fine to 3k, but struggled last 2 with the heat.  Slowest time of the series.

22/07/08 - Werrington Joggers Guestimate 5 mile (00:44:07)
First time running this race, and found the whole business of no watch/GPS/distance markers quite disconcerting!  It was also running a route I had not done before.  My guess was for 43:20, but was still tired fromSunday's 10k.  Still, a decent run, although tired last mile or so.

20/07/08 - Dairy Crest St Ives 10k (00:54:12)
Ran this 2 years ago which turned out to be my PW course!  Conditions better this year, but return leg on RAF Wyton airfield the sun was reflecting off the tarmac and I could feel myself burning.  Modest time overall, but pleased as I hadn't run for 10 days.  Legs/knees held up well.  Post-race massage with Sue B.

10/07/08 - Whissendine 6 (00:52:53)
3rd time running this race, which is my Club's handicap race, and previous 2 were bad runs.  It was therefore really good to have a decent run.  Felt good throughout and pretty pleased with the time.

02/07/08 - Peterborough 5k Series (3) - Eye  (00:24:52)
Not a bad run - OK to 3k, struggled on the slight bincline 4k-5k, and then finished fairly strong downhill.  Not a PB, but faster than this race last year.

21/06/08 - FetchEveryone 1 Mile Challenge (00:07:03)
An informal gathering of East Anglian Fetchies.  Not run a mile race in probably 40 years, nor run on a track for as long, so this was a new experience!  Calculations suggested a time of around 00:07:30.  Went off really hard trying to keep up with the leader (Canary Yellow), and struggled for first 2 laps to keep within 20 paces of him.  Lap 3 and I started to pull him back in, and finally passed him just before the start of the final lap.  Managed to keep the lead and finished in a staggering (literally!) 00:07:03!  Thankfully no after effects, other than tiredness!

21/06/08 - FetchEveryone 100 metre Dash (00:00:18.97)
Not content with the 1 mile challenge, we also had a 100 metre dash!  I am not a sprinter!  However, pleased with the time.  We also had a 4 x 100 metre relay (3 adults + 1 littley).  No timings for this, but against all the odds we won!

18/06/08 - Peterborough 5k Series (2) - Ferry Meadows (00:24:26)
Did not expect to run that fast, as still quite stiff from the Abbey 10k PB.  Weather was that bit cooler with quite a decent breeze, so conditions were actually very good.  Managed to run at sub-5 mins/k other than 3-4k when tipped over to 5:09 (was the marker in the right place and the last k was easily my fastest but I thought I struggled).

15/06/08 - Abbey 10k, Ramsey (00:51:45)
What a surprise!  Just a few days after a hard 5 mile run, and on a multi-terrain course, I go and pop a PB!  Much credit must be given to a fellow Club runner who picked me up at the 5k mark and pushed/paced me through to the finish. This was a hard run, and the last 3k were not pleasant.  However, really chuffed at getting under 52 minutes for the first time.  Knees a wee bit sore afterwards, but nothing serious.

12/06/08 - Eye Charity 5 (00:41:24)
A surprisingly good and enjoyable run.  Felt pretty good throughout, and produced a fast time - not a PB, but faster than any Frostbite, for example.  The bottle of beer at the end was good!

04/06/08 - Peterborough 5k Series (1) - Ferry Meadows (00:24:59)
Another warm run!  Hard work but quite pleased with the time - just 3 seconds slower than last year's race.  Legs ached in general afterwards from the effort, but there does not appear to be any adverse reaction with the knees.  The start of a busy month!

11/05/08 Eye 10k (00:55:26)
The heat (25 degrees) made this a tough race on the exposed Eye course.  I was a bit worried before the race due to my left knee playing up again (different problem, though!).  First 6k went pretty well, and I was feeling quite comfortable.  However, from 6k on, the heat took its toll and I really struggled all the way to the line.  Pretty poor time, but good news is that the knee feels OK.

04/05/08 - Breckland 10k (00:54:16)
This is certainly one of the friendliest races, and one of my favourites.  Not quite as hot as previous years, but still very warm!  Had a good run (the fastest I have run this course) and knee held up well, although a few twinges later on back home.

30/03/08 - Thorney 10k (00:54:34)
Whilst it may be a flat course, it is very exposed and when the Fen winds blow....!  Still, a nice day for a run and I am pleased with the time (although not a PB).  Kept a good pace throughout, but struggled between 6k-8k.  Knee has held up well.

02/03/08 - BRJ Huntiongdon Frostbite (00:44:56)
Things are starting to look up!  Although about a minute slower than last year, I felt comfortable throughout and the knee held up well.  Kept a steady 9-minute/mile pace throughout.  No after-effects either!

03/02/08 - Bourne Woods Frostbite (00:47:11)
Another race under my belt, and although it was a hard run and my slowest  time for this course, I still enjoyed it.  Legs felt heavy throughout, and the cold weather didn't help.  No real problem with legs, although some pain during the run - none afterwards.

13/01/08 - Ramsey Frostbite (00:48:49)
Nice to get another run under my belt.   As usual, this race was very wet and muddy, with heavy winds making the going tough.  Took it steady, starting right at the back, but managed to dig deep for the run-in.  Not a great time, but at least got around with no problems.

31/12/07 - Ely New Year's Eve 10k (00:58:49)
Yes, this may have been my second slowest 10k race, but as this was my first proper run in over two and a half months because of injury, and I have had "man flu" over the whole of Christmas, I am more than happy with the run.  Felt fine up to 5k, but return 5 there was nothing left in the tank and I really struggled.  Still, the knee seems to be OK, so looking good for Ramsey Frostbite in a week and a bit.

14/10/07 - Great Eastern Run (01:55:24)
Brilliant - at last I have managed to break through the 2 hour barrier!  The first 10 miles went really well, clocking under 9 minute mile pace throughout.  Struggled the last 3, but still managed to keep under 9 minute 30 pace.  Legs very heavy at the end, and they know they have been in a race!

07/10/07 - St Neots Frostbite (00:44:27)
First run since GNR and legs felt really heavy.  I thought I was struggling on this hilly off-road 5-mile race, but was pleasantly surprised to find I had clocked my fastest time ever on this course.  Even better was the news that the club had finished a superb 6th out of 15 - our highest position for many a  year.

30/09/07 - Great North Run (02:09:18)
First time running this prestigious race which is billed as the World's biggest half marathon.  Joined a crrowd of over 36,000 runners and was feeling quite apprehensive as this was my first half marathon since the ill-fated Milton Keynes Half back in July and my left knee was still giving me some concern. Felt pretty good up to around 8 miles when I really started to struggle, especially the climb up Marsden, and came pretty close to walking a couple of times.  However, once down on to the sea front for the last never-ending mile, there was no way I was going to walk - the crowds were brilliant.  Pretty pleased with the time as anything under 2:15 was going to be acceptable due to the vast numbers running.  Overall position, 17,053.

01/09/07 - Derwentwater Trail 14k (01:37:21)
Second time running this event and it is definitely one of my all time favourites.  Despite a sore knee (thankfully no more races before GNR at end of month), managed to knock nearly 7 minutes of last year's time.  Wet underfoot, and cloudy drizzle high up made for interesting conditions.  First time using Montrail Highlander trail shoes, and they were great!

19/08/07 - Thorney 5 (00:42:13)
Knee still troubling me, so was doubtful about running right up to the start.  However, took it nice and steady and knee felt OK.  Reasonably pleased with time, and knee feels OK.

16/08/07 -  Peterborough 5k Series (5) - Werrington (00:24:48)
Last race in the current series, so had to do it, and I'm glad I did.  The rain held off during the run, although it was a bit humid.  However, really enjoyed the run and managed 2nd fastest 5k time, despite my knee still giving me some trouble.

05/08/07 - Harlow 10 (01:44:21)
Like the Stamford 5k, I was thinking of pulling out of the race due to my knee.  However, I gave it a go on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year to date (31 degrees!).  This was one undulating course!  Started off pretty steady and felt quite comfortable up to 5 miles.  Started to struggle with the heat from 5 miles, and following the drinks station @ 7 miles, I had to walk most of the distance to 8 miles (up an especially steep hill in the park!).  Last 2 miles were "trotted" but very slowly.  Another PW and one where I have had to walk.  Not good....

01/08/07 - Peterborough 5k Series (4) - Stamford (00:26:05)
I wasn't go to run this event following the problems @ Milton Keynes.  However, a week of no running left me frustrated and feeling somewhat better.  An interesting 2-lap hilly course - I actually enjoyed the run, although I took it fairly steady and there was still some residual pain in the knee.  A PW, but at least I finished, and I wasn't last!

22/07/07 - NSPCC Milton Keynes Half Marathon (02:13:53)
This was a total disaster!  I have had a niggle in my left knee for a couple of weeks, but thought I would be OK.  Race went well to half distance - on target to break 2 hours for the first time - but second half just fell apart.  At around 9.5 miles I developed a really bad pain in my lower back, due, I think, to my subconsciously adapting my running to help my knee but putting extra strain on my back.  In the end, I had great difficulty in running at all, and especially on any inclines, so I ended up walking (never done before in a race, or even training) or a very slow jog.  This race is not flat, despite the advertising blurb, with dozens of underpasses and bridges to negotiate.

18/07/07 - Peterborough 5k Series (3) - Ferry Meadows (00:24:20)
A lovely evening (a bit warm) and a return to Ferry Meadows, and a determination to have a good run!  Worked really hard, with a fast start, and then tracked Sharon Toms of Yaxley Runners up to 3k.  Passed Sharon @ 3k and pushed on as hard as I could.  Sharon managed to outsprint me on the run-in, but still managed to smash my PB.

12/07/07 - Whissendine 6 (00:55:01)
A really enjoyable but hard race over a very undulating course in quite hot and humid conditions.  A good Club turnout made for some good banter.  Struggled from about 3 miles on, mainly due to having run over 10 miles the night before (not ideal race prep!).  A nice bottle of beer and an engraved glass as a memento.

04/07/07 - Peterborough 5k Series (2) - Eye (00:25:06)
This was one cr@ppy race!  Very wet & windy, a congested and confused start from a wet field, and the finish over wet, muddy ground.  Did not enjoy!  Roll on next 5k race when we are back in Ferry Meadows.

24/06/07 - Yaxley 7 (01:00:50)
This 2-lapper was really quite tough - legs still feeling heavy from the mid-week 5k race.  Mildly undulating, with the climbs at the end of each lap, this makes for a tough finish.  Still, a pretty good time (now p'ed off I didn't break 60 mins!).  Super support all the way around the route.  Will definitely try and run this next year.

20/06/07 - Peterborough 5k Series  (1) - Ferry Meadows (00:24:56)
I wasn't going to enter this race as I have always considered 5k as a sprint not suitable for a plodder like me.  Anyway, nagged into it by Sheila and Graham, and in the end, found it an enjoyable run although ruddy hard work!  Pretty pleased with time - let's see if we can improve....

07/06/07 - Eye Charity 5 (00:40:55)
Well, what can I say....  An absolutely crackin' race in ideal conditions, and I smashed by PB - OK, so only one previous "official" 5-miler, but still a good time.

28/05/07 - Brandon Forest Half Marathon (02:01:53)
Wet, windy, muddy, and b***y cold!  Still, an enjoyable, if somewhat interesting run through Brandon Forest - all off-road (brought back memories of school cross-country runs!).  Felt quite good despite struggling to see where I was going.  Managed a PB in the end.

13/05/07 - Eye 10k (00:52:32)
That's more like it!  Light drizzle and overcast, and temperature just right.  Kept the pressure up all the way around, although struggled a bit on the cross-country leg.  Still, only 10 seconds slower than my PB and a good 2.5 minutes faster than the last 10k.

29/04/07 - Breckland 10k (00:55:00)
Crackin' race, crap time.  Felt really good to 6k, then really struggled to maintain any sort of pace to 9k.  Funny though, last k was fastest of all!  The weather was very warm and the tree-lined roads trapped the heat.  Still, a really good race and will be back next year.

25/03/07 - Thorney 10k (00:52:22)
What a difference decent weather makes.  After the last 2 races being in pretty awful conditions, today's was a sheer pleasure - and I got a PB to boot!  Gloriously fine, some sun, and very little wind made for good condiions on a very flat course.  Felt good throughout the run.

18/03/07 - adidas London Half Marathon, Silverstone (02:04:31)
If the weather was bad at Huntingdon, it was atrocious in this race!  Gale force winds and two hail storms do not make for good running conditions.  Mind you, Nigel Mansell also took part, and I beat him (OK, so it was not in cars, and it was his first ever half marathon, but what the heck, it's still a result!).  Not a bad run, though, although I still cannot break the 2 hour barrier -  still, nearly 3 minutes faster than last year's race.  Felt quite good, given the conditions,  up to 11 miles, but found the last 2 hard going with little left in my legs.

04/03/07 - BRJ Huntingdon Frostbite (00:44:01)
Last race of the current series, so of course it has to pour down just as the race starts!  Still, a decent work-out and the time was better than I had hoped for, given the bug I have had for the past few weeks.  Time down on last year, but given the conditions, still OK.

04/02/07 - Bourne Frostbite (00:45:22)
Definitely one of my favourite Frostbite courses - this is set in Forestry Commission woodland and is a glorious mix of trail running and cross country.  A lovely frosty day, and a decent club turnout made for a pretty good run.  Time fractionally down on last year's race, but still satisfied.

22/01/07 - Folksworth 15
Furthest distance ever run, and my legs feel it!  This is a tough, undulating course over two laps.  First lap and bit felt good, pinging away at around 9:30 minute/mile pace, but between 9-11 miles on the second lap (where the steepest and longest hills are) the wind picked up and was blowing straight into your face - this really took its toll on me.  By the ned, not much running left in my legs as I felt totally spent.  I was hoping to get around 2 hours 30 minutes, so very pleased to scrape in just under this.  A hard race, but will probably be back next year.

14/01/07 - Ramsey Frostbite (00:47:29)
Still having sinus problems, and not having run for over a week, I was not particularly looking forward to the Ramsey Frostbite - this 5.22 mile multi-terrain course is very exposed, and the biting wind certainly lets you know it is there!  As is was, I completed the race in my slowest ever Frostbite time, albeit at just over 9 minute/mile pace.  Still, at least I finished the course and I wasn't last!  Not ideal preparation for the forthcoming Folksworth 15, so I am expecting a fairly torrid race next time out.

31/12/06 - Ely New Year's Eve 10k (00:56:19)
A blustery but dry day for this, my second go in the Ely New Year's Eve 10k.  Marginally faster time than last year, but given the strength of the wind between 5k and 8k, as well as the lingering sinus problems, I am quite pleased.  It is certainly a nice race to finish the year on.

10/12/06 - March Frostbite (00:46:22)
First time running this new Frostbite 5-miler, and what an interesting one!  Very muddy and very slippy underfoot, yet still an enjoyable race.  Not ideal for a PB (unless there is a good, hard frost), but still an enjoyable race.  Although slowest time yet for a Frostbite, I felt good at the end, and no problems with ankles etc.

03/12/06 - Nene Valley 10 (01:33:34)
Second time running this race, and this time it was on a cold and very windy day with slippy conditions underfoot.  Ran quite comfortably up to 8 miles, but last 2 were a real struggle - legs felt totally dead.  Managed to finish 17 seconds faster than last year, so not too bad considering first proper run since twisting ankle on previous race.  However, this race is very much for the elite (I finished a lowly 216/233, and it was a lonely run at the back), so probably not entering next year.  Not too impressed by the organisation, and no memento for finishing either.

19/11/06 - St Neot's Riverside Half Marathon (02:02:30)
A lovely course (bit hilly!) and superb conditions - cold, but clear.  Everything going OK until around 11 mile marker when I took a tumble - left ankle gave way in rough edge to road, fell twisting left ankle and grazing right knee.  Took a mile to run through the after-effects, so quite pleased to be only 11 seconds slower than my PB.  Finished 706/902.

12/11/06 - Bushfield Frostbite (00:43:24)
A much better race, despite a problem with my left hip (bursitis), as I managed to knock just over a minute off last year's time.  Excellent running conditions, and another record-breaking entry for the Frostbite League.  Will take it easy before next weekend's Half Marathon.

29/10/06 - Fenland 10 (01:31:09)
After the superb crowd support during the Great Eastern Run, this 10-miler was much more mentally challenging.  Good running to 7 miles, but then really struggled the last 3.  Still managed a PB, but wanted to break 90 minutes.  Next time........

15/10/06 - Great Eastern Run (02:02:19)
The return of the Great Eastern Run to Peterborough saw me having a much better run, which looks to have put the disappointment of the Blackpool Half Marathon behind me.  I would have been happy with a time around 2 hours 10 mins, so to finish in just over 2 hours 2 minutes was great, and managing to knock 5 minutes off my PB even better.  A nice flat course with bags of support all the way around as well, so roll on 2007.

08/10/06 - St Neot's Frostbite (00:45:54)
First Frostbite of the new series.  Disapppointing that the official time of 00:46:14 is some 20 seconds slower than my recorded time (00:45:55), thus making for a slower time than last year.  Excellent conditions, and an enjoyable race, though, and a good start to the new series.
Update 17/01/07:  Following queries by several runners to the race officials, the timing of the senior race has been investigated.  As a result, all times have been reduced by 20 seconds, so my official time is now 00:45:54 - much happier now, and only one second different from my timing.

24/09/06 - Tarpley 10 (01:40:11)
This 10 mile race is definitely undulating!  Having said that, I really enjoyed this race.  A smallish field (only 115 finishers), but very friendly and superbly organised.  The race started in cloudy, windy and cool conditions (up hill!), but after a few spots of rain, the sun came out and the heat rose rapidly - the heat certainly took its toll later on.  I was reasonably happy with my time, given the conditions.  And to cap it all, I came away with a pair of Ron Hill tracksters as a spot prize!  I certainly hope to be back next year.

02/09/06 - Derwentwater Trail 13k (01:44:06)
Torrential rain, steep climbs and Glenderaterra bog (very messy!) made this a very different race!  A real challenge, but actually very enjoyable, and I certainly would do it again.  Struggled a bit after the bog - had to walk through the bog, and then found legs very cold and tired when tried to run again.  I had hoped to do the run in 90 minutes, but given the conditions, pretty satisfied with the time.

20/08/06 - Thorney 5 (00:45:06)
After a couple of frustrating training runs, it was nice to get a decent race under my belt.  Woke up to torrential rain, but thankfully it stayed fine for the race.  A nice, if uninspiring, flat course out on the old A47 and back.  Aimed for a 45 minute race time and took it steady, finishing close to taget time.  Felt pretty comfortable all the way round.  Nice preparation for the Derwentwater Trail in a couple of weeks (although that one is certainly not a flat, fast course!).

23/07/07 - St Ive's 10k (01:01:48)
Slowest 10k race to date, on yet another very hot  day.  The run takes you up onto RAF Wyton airfield (past armed guards!), with the middle 5k run on the runway perimeter track (very hot, with absolutely no shade).  I again struggled in the heat (roll on Autumn!).  The course is a bit undulating, but nowhere near as bad as Whissendine!  Very friendly and well organised race - will definitely do again.

06/07/07 - Whissendine 6 (00:59:42)
When the race blurb says "naturally undulating", take it to mean damned hilly - this one was!  Six miles of country lanes on a very warm and sticky evening makes for a good challenge.  Unfortunately I could feel twinges in my right calf early on, and after two miles, it was clear it was strained!  Still, battled on to complete the course (should really have stopped and walked in).  Nice bottle of beer and engraved glass as memento - saved the beer for the weekend, broke the glass getting out of the car!  Very friendly event, though, and well worth doing again.

25/06/06 - Chiquita Bananaman 10k Chase (00:56:42)
Never mind the time - how many bananas did you pass?  Seriously, this event is like no other, with the object being to pass as many of the TV celebrities dressed as bananas as possible during the 3-lap, 10k course inside Victoria Park in London.  A hot and humid day saw nearly 1,000 runners, all dressed in bright yellow Leukaemia Research tops running around the park, with human bananas mingling with gorillas and clowns.  A great and really enjoyable event.  I  managed to pass 5 bananas!  Will definitely be back next year!

04/06/06 - Blackpool Half Marathon (02:22:11)
Difficult race - very hot and hard on feet.  First 5 miles OK but then the run on the concrete promenade between 6-9 mles turned my legs to lead. The run home from Bispham seemed never ending.  Despite being on target @ 5 miles, eventually finished 15 minutes slower than Silverstone.

14/05/06  -  Eye 10k  (00:52:55)
Good race despite turning my ankle just before the start.  Nice flat course with just a short cross country bit near the end.  Good running weather - cloudy, cool, but dry.  A new PB by 2 minutes.

30/04/06 - Breckland 10k (00:54:55)
Superb race - brilliant weather and a really friendly and well-organised race.  Short hill at start, but basically flat on roads through forest.  First race in new shoes - Saucony Grid Triumph 3 - no problems, and very comfortable.

19/03/06 - Silverstone Half Marathon (02:07:23)
First half marathan - went well, although conditions took their toll last 2 miles.  The Grand Prix circuit is really good to run on, but very exposed - quite windy, and very cold!  Pleased to finish ahead of my planned time.  Excellent organisation on the day.
